Clinical Therapist

Hello.  I would love to have the privilege of working with you on your counseling journey.  I am a Licensed Social Worker and have provided counseling services to individuals, families, and groups for over 30 years.  In that time, I have learned how important it is to create safe spaces where people feel unjudged so that they can begin the work of healing themselves and living their lives as the persons they want to be.

I recognize it is often hard for people to open up about their personal experiences, and I have a successful history of using creative approaches to therapy that can help people explore what works best for them in the counseling sessions to promote and support increased self-awareness, self-confidence, and living in and through depression, anxiety, trauma, and other negative life experiences.  I am experienced in working with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors from all different backgrounds with a variety of cultural and life experiences.

In using a mind, body, and soul approach to healing through counseling, I want to help you be able to find the answers that are present inside of you and discover the strengths that you may not even know you have to cope with, move through, and overcome everyday and/or traumatic life experiences.  I do this by using both verbal and non-verbal interventions which get to the heart of what we say and what we may not be saying.  Because it is often hard to express ourselves in the way we really want to for fear of judgement or fearing our thoughts and feelings may not be validated, non-verbal interventions such as music, poetry, movement, mindfulness activities, journaling, drawing, play, and yoga-based activities are among some of the approaches I use in sessions to help people move toward being the healthy and healed persons they strive to be through counseling.  Other approaches I use in sessions are based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, and the Trauma Conscious Yoga Method.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame in Science Pre-Professional Studies/Pre-Med, and I received my Master’s Degree in Dance/Movement Therapy from Goucher College.  I have currently completed my Level I training in the Trauma Conscious Yoga Method (TCYM) and will be certified as a TCYM Level I practitioner after submission of my final project.

I look forward to meeting you and working with you.
