Child, Adolescent, and Adult Counseling
Markeila Shaw, CT

Clinical Therapist Intern

Hi, my name is Markeila, and I am a counselor-in-training here at Serenity Behavioral Health. I’m excited to begin working with new clients and supporting them through their healing journeys. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Franklin University and a Preschool Certificate from Columbus State Community College, where I completed over 18 credit hours in early childhood development. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Clinical Counseling at Grand Canyon University.

I have a deep passion for working with children and have had the opportunity to work with individuals across various age groups throughout my career. My primary focus is with children between the ages of 5 and 12, and I’ve supported this age group in a variety of settings, including as a classroom teacher and as an Inclusion Specialist, where I worked closely with children with suspected disabilities and their families. I also have experience mentoring and motivating young adults between the ages of 21 and 30, helping them navigate personal and professional challenges. Additionally, I find great joy in working with senior citizens. I value the wisdom they offer and have a soft spot for supporting them with the care, attention, and advocacy they deserve.

As your therapist, my goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where you feel comfortable expressing yourself. I aim to provide a space where clients can heal, grow, and develop into the healthiest versions of themselves. I am especially passionate about working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral challenges, self-esteem concerns, and those seeking career guidance or motivational support.

In my therapeutic approach, I enjoy using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is a powerful tool for helping individuals shift unhelpful thoughts and behaviors toward healthier alternatives. I also appreciate the value of Client-Centered Therapy, where the client is free to express themselves and guide the direction of their sessions. Solution-Focused Therapy is another method I use that emphasizes progress by concentrating on solutions rather than problems. Mindfulness practices are also a significant part of my work, as they help create a non-judgmental space for clients to stay present and grounded. I’m especially looking forward to incorporating Play Therapy into my work, as it offers a meaningful way to connect with and support my younger clients.

I am honored to walk alongside my clients as they work toward positive change and personal growth.
