Clinical Therapist Intern

Hi, I’m Lydia, and I’m currently completing my clinical internship while earning my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Kentucky. Before beginning my counseling career, I spent more than 20 years in executive leadership roles, where I learned the importance of authentic relationships, thoughtful communication, and helping people navigate high-pressure situations with confidence and compassion.

My journey to counseling was inspired by more than a decade as a caregiver and medical advocate for my family. Walking alongside loved ones through pediatric leukemia, chronic illness, complex medical systems, and end-of-life care profoundly shaped the counselor I am becoming. These experiences taught me how to remain grounded during crises, recognize the strength people often don’t see in themselves, and understand the emotional impact that illness, caregiving, grief, and life transitions can have on individuals and families.

I strive to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. I believe that healing begins with connection, and I work collaboratively with clients to help them identify their strengths, develop practical coping skills, and move toward the life they want to build. While therapy often involves difficult conversations, I also believe there is space for hope, self-compassion, and even moments of laughter along the way.

I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, caregiver stress, chronic illness, trauma, adjustment concerns, and major life transitions. My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and individualized to each client. I integrate evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and strengths-based interventions to meet clients where they are.

Throughout both my professional and personal experiences, I have learned that people are remarkably resilient when they feel supported and empowered. Whether you are facing overwhelming circumstances, navigating uncertainty, or simply seeking greater balance and purpose, my goal is to walk alongside you with empathy, curiosity, and respect as you move toward meaningful and lasting change.
